Design Process

My preferred design process would start with careful site consideration. Are there site elements that are hidden to the passing eye? What is the sites history? How can these be utilized to amplify the design process? I prefer to understand every site through personal observation to find the latent qualities hidden throughout.

The horticulture and ecology of a site elicit a regional response to its place in the world. Native plants help tell the story of place while adaptive plants can bring an exotic whimsy to the site. Utilizing plants to create geometry and define space add formality to the unanticipated alignment of nature. I have a passion for not just nature, but the juxtaposition of nature within the urban context, and how to tell the story of place.

  • Who is this space for?

  • What is the narrative?

  • Why is it being created?
